XJ & XY Music Studio

Hello! We are sisters, Xin Jie and Xin Ying. Together with our mother, we started out a home-based education service called Cheong Music & Language Centre. While our mother teaches Chinese language, both of us teach the violin, cello and piano. We run an ethical business unlike many others out there by keeping our rates affordable, with the effort and quality that we offer to our students. Keep reading on to find out more!

A Dedicated Music Teacher

XJ Violin

Xin Jie is an avid lover of music, in particular the violin. Having picked up the violin at the age of 8, she fell in love with the instrument and pursued it thereafter. Upon completion of her ABRSM Grade 8 at the age of 12, she participated in various competitions ranging from solo, trio or ensemble categories.

Some of XJ's Achievements:
XJ clinched the First Prize for her very first N7 Inter-school Solo Competition at the age of 11, and Silver and Gold Award where she was the soloist of the ensemble at the Singapore Raffles International Music Festival 2013 and 2014 respectively. She served as the Concert Master of her former secondary school, CHIJ St Nicholas Girls School. She also served as the Concert Master of NUS Symphonic Orchestra and was the soloist for the performance with the orchestra in March 2022.

Stages that XJ has performed:

Currently with 12 years of experience playing the violin, 9 years of stage experience in various competitions and performances ranging from small to large scale stages at YST Conservatory Hall, The Arts House, the Esplanade and more, Xin Jie also has 4 years of experience teaching the violin.

Her Teaching Experiences

Xin Jie has been working with students of all ages from 6 to 48 years old to guide and hone their practical and theoretical skills. She also teaches students from countries like the United States through online teaching.

Also holding a double major in Biological Sciences and Psychology from the National University of Singapore, Xin Jie studies the Psychology of Music Performance too. She also understands the art of teaching and she holds the patience and encouragement needed to keep her students going. She also takes in students with dyslexia and learning difficulties and all these have made her love teaching even more.

XJ's Words

"I love sharing my passion with others and I am so grateful that I get to do this incredible job every single day. I love what I do and it makes me so happy to be able to share my passion with others. I’ve been privileged to see so many students discover their natural skills and abilities and reach results they never dreamed were possible. " - Xin Jie

Xin Jie currently teaches the violin privately at her place in the North side and at the School of the Music and Arts (SOMA Singapore) located at Marina Square.

The cello has such a warm and mellow tone that reaches deep into my soul. Getting a good foundation for my students is something very important and I would love to continue doing so.
